Puerto Morelos Mexico Real Estate for Sale

Puerto Morelos, just 20 minutes south of Cancun has character of its own. Situated in Quintana Roo on the Yucatan Peninsula, the tradition of fishing for a living still survives in Puerto Morelos.

Tourism is picking up fast here. Real Estate prices are lower and the pace of life is relaxed. There is a zocalo (town square) in the center of town with a few stores, a dive shop and some restaurants along its perimeter.

The beach in the center of town has small fishing boats on the sand. The main fishing pier and the lighthouse are the tourist attractions.

It's the ideal location for tourists who want a quiet beach vacation away from the glitz, but with sufficient tourist facilities. The town has just two principal streets and you can walk from one end to the other in about 15 minutes.

The reef just off shore is part of the Great Mesoamerican Reef, the second largest reef system in the world and the largest in the Western Hemisphere. In 1998, the reef in front of Puerto Morelos was declared a protected National Marine Park with an aim to preserve its rich biodiversity. Buildings in Puerto Morelos are limited to three stories by local bylaws, to preserve the village type of character.
