Comments on: Baja California road trip: this must be the most beautiful drive in Mexico! https://www.mexicoinsider.mx/baja-california-road-trip/ Your ultimate resource for Mexico travel Wed, 09 Aug 2023 00:41:47 +0000 hourly 1 https://www.mexicoinsider.mx?v=6.9 By: Ray Ego https://www.mexicoinsider.mx/baja-california-road-trip/#comment-1931 Sun, 18 Sep 2022 17:26:39 +0000 http://www.mexicoinsider.mx/?p=1671#comment-1931 I spent my winters in the Northern Baja for 15 years and travelled by road as far south Loreto. There are some notable and misleading information in this article. You cannot travel from Tijuana to Valle de Guadalupe in 28 minutes (it’s more
like an hour+) and Guadalupe to Ensenada is about 20 minutes. Baja North and South are both free zones, so you don’t need to rent a car. Just go online and purchase Mexican auto insurance for your trip.

One little edit for you (if you can): I think you may have got the travel times confused on Valle de Guadalupe. It’s more like 2 hours from Tijuana and 30 minutes from Ensenada. Just something to update so as not to confuse readers. Thanks!

hello everyone, well everything been said about the 2 Mexican states Baja California and baja California sur is true everything is beautiful but about renting a car well not you don’t have to fill any paperwork or get any special permits to drive your own vehicle in those 2 states because those 2 states are declared Free zone, so all you need is to have your vehicle registered tonyour name and have a valid driver license thats all. I’m from La Paz baja California and i drive 2 times a year with usa plates without any problems. yes o got pull over for traffic violation but never got in trouble for driving a foreign vehicle as long as i have current registration and valid driver license.. thanks and enjoy those beautiful places

So much of shores, history, culture and nature. I loved the tips you have shared – like how you should pick up a Mexican sim card. I would honestly have ditched in favor of a global sim card but after reading this, I would think twice.

Even though officially we were not supposed to travel into Mexico as tourists (because of covid), no one stopped us and we had no problems returning to the US. I can’t imagine missing Bahia de Los Angeles on this road trip of yours. It’s a beautiful and pristine place to explore, with so much wildlife!

Stunning pictures! Would love to take this road trip as I love exploring Latin towns. And definitely stopping at Bahia de Los Angeles for whale-watching!

That would be one long road trip. But with all the interesting stops along the way, and I can see the appeal, especially to escape our cold Canadian winters.

I would love to go whale watching in Ojo de lièbre Lagoon and take pictures of the pristine beaches and landscapes.

Good to know that it is not too expensive returning the car at a different place. I did not know that Mexico is a wine country – so I would definitely try some Mexican wines.

Some awesome stops and sights along the way. Good to know the roads are safe but not always well marked. The drop off fee is reasonable so it might make sense to rent a car when we get there.

I would certainly like to do a road trip in Mexico. The scenery looks super and thanks for all the useful tips–like renting a car, getting travel insurance and keeping cool if the police stops. Whale watching in Ojo de Liebre Lagoon, Guerrero Negro, is my main goal, should I manage to make a trip to this part of the world.
